The SLAJ is a non-political, non-profit; and non-discriminatory association formed in Japan
- To strengthen the Sri Lankan community in Japan;
- To promote social and cultural relations between Sri Lanka and Japan; and
- To contribute to the socioeconomic development of Sri Lanka

The revised constitution of the SLAJ was approved at the special general meeting of the association on 04th June 2006.
